I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to President Emmanuel Macron, the Government of France, and the people of France for their compassion and steadfast support for my mother, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and the people of Burma.
During my recent meeting with Mr. Christian Lechervy, Special Envoy for Myanmar, Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, I received a personal letter from President Macron addressed to my mother. In it, he expressed deep concern for her health and renewed France’s call for her immediate and unconditional release, as well as for all political prisoners.
“My mother, now elderly and unwell, has spent much of her life deprived of freedom for the sake of her country. Her release is not only a matter of justice and humanity, but it is essential for Burma’s freedom and peace.”
I am deeply moved by the compassion, courage, and friendship shown by France.
Its moral leadership reminds the world that truth, peace, and freedom must never be silenced.
